Improving your PPC Quality Score

By: Britney Simpson

Over the last few years pay per click or PPC marketing has come to be a very competitive area. With such huge competition around it is extremely necessary to improve the significance of your listings. Google has realized this and is dynamically trying to improve on the relevance of search results it throws up to people searching for information on the Net. In order to help internet marketing professionals drive traffic of high quality which could end up in conversions, Google has modified their algorithms for quality score. Ad text when put in different ad groups can give you better results.

Quality score is said to be important as it affects your ad rank or where your ads appear and how much you end up paying per click. But our area of interest will be finding ways to improve the quality score and therefore end up with more conversions. There are several ways to optimize your quality score. You can begin by running plenty of small ad groups which are appropriate. Make sure you have done your keyword research and keep the keywords in your campaign relevant to one another following the same theme. This will enable you to write successful ad text which will be relevant to all the keywords you have selected in the ad groups.

On the assumption that you have a reasonable budget, it is advisable to run a campaign with plenty of tiny ad groups rather than a single ad group for the whole campaign. Google has allowed us to have several ad groups for a single campaign so we should make the best use of this. A typical ad group could have anywhere between one and twenty keywords which are all interconnected by a common theme. Make sure that you have included the keywords in your ad text. This will make sure that your ad text is very much relevant to the keyword searched for and will thereby improve your quality score.

Make sure you create more than one ad in each of your ad groups. You can then turn off ad optimization and run the A/B testing on your ad text. This will help you to test how each ad performs as compared to the other. You can then eliminate the loser and introduce a new ad text to compete with the winning ad text till you get great results and a high quality score.

If you are one of those people who is bogged down with a less than satisfactory quality score then perhaps you could use some tips. Make sure you make at least two or three different kinds of ad text. Try different kinds of messages in each and try to get a feel of what people generally like. Put your ads in different ad groups. Make sure your landing page contains content that is related to what is shown in your ad text. Turn off ad optimization and have the ads rotated. This will give each ad text a fair chance and you will begin to see conversion rates, conversion volumes, CTR, ROI and so on depending on how good your success is.
